Rules for the 2018 Askida IoT Challenge

Work From Home To Build Your Own IoT Device

The registration period for the 2018 IoT Challenge, presented by Bell, is now officially over!

Our jury members will be getting together in January of 2019 to select the winners. Our jury will start by looking at everything that's in your GitHub repository. If files in your GitHub repository are incomplete or your repository has changed, please let us know immediately. Incomplete files will be ignored.

You can also use your GitHub account to upload logfiles, sequence diagrams, screen shots, photos or any other material that will help us better understand your project.

Once we've had a look at everyone's projects using the material on GitHub, it's possible we'll schedule a 30 minutes call with you if we have further questions about your project. During this call, you may have to demonstrate that your device works. We'll give you plenty of time to prepare in advance.

The winners will be announced before the end of February 2019.

What is the 2018 IoT Challenge? We’re inviting you to work from home to build your very own IoT device using a Raspberry Pi and a sensor kit. We have $5000 in prizes to give away, including one $2500 cash prize for the first prize, two $1000 cash prizes, one $500 cash prize & more!

How To Participate

We’re inviting you to work from home to build an IoT device using a Raspberry Pi 3, model B or B+.

We encourage you to use material that’s inexpensive and easy to acquire. The sensor kit you use should cost less than $50, and your total budget is $150 maximum.

The application can use your choice of language or framework (Python, Javascript, .Net Core, Node-RED). Your design should be entirely original, or at least 50% original if you’re basing it on examples.

You should present your application with an architecture diagram and at least one sequence diagram. You may also receive bonus points for the robustness of your design (for example: power outage, self-healing, etc).

API stubbing is required, and you must document a test strategy and plans. You may receive bonus points for automated functional tests.
